It’s Complicated
We often make faith far more complicated than it was ever meant to be. Rules, pressure, performance, and expectations slowly creep in, and before we know it, the simple good news of Jesus feels heavy and exhausting.
Bottom Line:
The Gospel is simple because Jesus is enough. We add pressure, rules, and expectations, but Christ finished the work.
⸻
1. We are Justified by Faith, Not Performance (v. 16)
Paul reminds us that our right standing with God doesn't come from rule keeping or spiritual comfort.
The human heart gravitates toward earning, but Scripture calls us to trusting.
Adding anything to Jesus overcomplicates the Gospel and steals our joy.
Key Thought: Jesus did the work. We receive the gift.
⸻
2. Grace Produces Transformation, Not Permission (vv. 17-19)
Grace doesn't give us a free pass to sin. It frees us from the old system of guilt and striving.
Returning to a works-based mindset is rebuilding what Christ already tore down.
The law reveals our need for salvation, but only Christ can meet that need.
Key Thought: God doesn't lower the bar. Grace lifts the burden.
⸻
3. Christ Lives in Us and Changes Everything (vv. 20-21)
Salvation isn't just forgiveness; it's new life. Our old self is crucified with Christ.
We live by faith in the One who loved us and gave Himself for us.
If we could earn righteousness, the Cross would be unnecessary. But Jesus alone is enough.
Key Thought: The Gospel is simple when we stop trying to earn what Christ has already accomplished.

Questions for Reflection:
Where am I adding pressure or performance to my relationship with Jesus?
What would I change if I trusted more in Christ's finished work and less in my own efforts?
How is God inviting me to rest in His grace instead of striving for His approval?
